The band: The Classic Towel has a simple 1 inch band top and bottom, which prevents the uneven shrinkage of wide bands.
100% Natural. No fake ‘natural’ fibres. No bamboo: it’s rayon. No eucalyptus: it’s rayon. Rayon takes forever to dry Rayon holds 50% more moisture than cotton.

Crunchy or soft?

Prefer crunchy towels? Line dry. Prefer soft? Use a dryer - front loaders in particular make towels crunchy when not tumble dried. For best absorbency, soak new towels in cold water for 24 hours before first wash and never use fabric softener, it repels water!

Care

  • Soak first. Before the first wash, soak your towels in cold water for 24 hours.
  • Drying: see Crunchy or soft? above.
  • Tumble dry the first few washes to catch loose fibres. New terry sheds a little, then settles. After that, line dry if you prefer crunchy towels.
  • Never use fabric softener. It leaves a waxy coating that repels water, and in lab tests cotton was up to 47% less absorbent after five washes. It also worsens pilling and builds up in your machine and pipes. Plumbers hate it!
  • Colours can vary slightly run to run, and fade in direct sun.
  • Loose thread? It's normal for cotton terry. Trim it to 3mm, not to the end of the thread.

  • Crunchy or soft?

    Prefer crunchy towels? Line dry. Like it soft? Use a dryer. Front loaders also make towels super crunchy when line drying. And never use fabric softener, it causes linting, shedding, pilling, and makes cotton terry repel water. Avoid.

  • 700gsm soaks more water

    There are a few reasons towels don't absorb water like fabric softener, yarn and weight. Our low twist yarn helps with absorbency and at 700gsm, our towels soak more water than your average retail towel. Pick one up and you'll notice the difference.

  • Soak for more absorbency

    New cotton fibres tighten and close at the mill. A soak opens them back up. So before the first wash, soak your towels in cold water for 24 hours, then wash as normal. It's the one step I ask everyone not to skip if you want absorbent towels.

  • Soft and absorbent

    Ben and I test every towel in our own bathroom against one rule: it has to be soft and absorbent. A towel that pushes water around doesn't make the cut, no matter how lovely it feels. We won't sell anything we don't love and use ourselves.
